About Halie

Circa 2017

I am a professionally trained birth doula living in Richmond, VA. In 2023 I went into my training with toLabor (doula training org in RVA) thinking that I would work exclusively with women during the postpartum period. I have four miraculous little people in my life, and miscarried one sweet one before they came along, and I understand many of the challenges and joys of beginning life with a baby. But, during my training, I quickly found myself most drawn towards being with women and their partners in the birth space. I am in love with this work and would love to come alongside you and walk with you. It is a sacred time to be a part of in someone’s life and my faith informs the way I value what I get to do. Birth is spiritual.

Aside from working as a doula, I spend a lot of time with my husband and children, reading books and walking in the woods, dreaming up creative projects, and spending time with the many people I love in this city. I'd love to get to know you.

Prenatal support,  & continuous birth support, & postpartum care.

My services

Prenatal
I offer education about childbirth and informed consent (I still encourage all my clients to take a childbirth ed class), as well as information about decisions that may come up in birth. I help my clients formulate a birth plan and postpartum expectations. I am available to my clients leading up to birth as questions arise. I want my clients to know what they need going into birth.

Birth

I support my clients with continuous physical & emotional support during birth and help with the first hours after birth. I want my clients to know what their options are and to feel safe and supported.

Postpartum
I offer a postpartum check-in where I can hear about how things are going and answer any questions about baby care and breastfeeding. I am available for additional postpartum support to allow you to get some stretches of rest in those first weeks.

Testimonials

“If you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant, I highly recommend getting a doula. Halie was an incredible birth partner who prepared us for what we should expect during pregnancy, labor & postpatrtum, and was/is available for any questions every step of the way. Halie helped me labor from home to the hospital, stayed with us the entire time, & continues to check in on us. She ensured that we had a cozy, God-filled & -centered laboring space, praying over us every step of the way. She provided every comfort measure possible & gave Zach & I the space to focus on each other. Her strong yet calming presence was invaluable. Highly recommend.”

  • Abby M.

“Halie was such a calming presence for me, beginning with the prenatal visits and all the way through the delivery. She provided a high level of emotional safety for me. I knew that I could trust her to advocate for me and help me understand any unexpected decisions that might need to be made. And my husband felt similarly about her. We had the utmost trust in her to be our “expert” in the room. We benefited immensely from Halie's skills and gifts as a doula and would recommend her care to any expecting parents.”
